I must have heard that verse quoted to me a million and three times during my formative years. I'm the eldest of ten and five of my nine siblings share the same chromosomal structure. Of course, with that much testosterone in one house there was ample opportunity for... we'll call it animated disagreement. The truth of the matter is I was a pipsqueak but I was still spoiling for a little rough housing.

The powers permitted to Government ought to be few and well defined. So believed James Madison. Nowhere is this more true than in the area of "police power". It should be noted the Constitution only extends police powers to the federal government in case of "counterfeiting, treason, piracy and offenses against the laws of nations." Which makes for disturbing news from Homeland Security. Seems citizens need to be aware of yet more when flying.

Oklahoma's Democrat Governor, Brad Henry, appointed Steve Burrage of Antlers to replace Jeff McMahan as State Auditor.
McMahan, of course, was conviced of being corrupt and a general slimeball.
The calls were for someone good and conservative and corruption free to replace McMahan. The governor has kept Democrats in this post during his time as Governor and, frankly, they bit.

Waiting for the other shoe to drop. That's the best way to describe the continuing drama with the all-Democrat Detroit City Council. Several council members remain targets of a federal investigation into a bribe backed multi-million dollar deal with Synagro to handle waste and build an incinerator. Members and their staffs continue to be questioned and, sometimes, video-taped accepting funny money. And in the best Democrat tradition there isn't a one of them standing up and taking responsibility for his or her actions, although responsibility could be forced upon them somewhere down the road.

Low rise jeans and term limits. Beautiful things. What do the topics have in common? Nothing but liberty, my friends, nothing but liberty.
First, our friend, the term limit. Love them or hate them, it is tough to argue limits aren't affecting the way things happen in Lansing. Or that they aren't about to affect things in even more profound ways this November. The Detroit News reports this morning on this fall's state House elections where forty-four members of the chamber are getting the boot not because the voters got sick of them but because, well, just because.

The Detroit News reports this afternoon that the Barackstar will accept the Democratic nomination for President at Invesco Field at Mile High in Denver.
Mile High is the third holiest site for orange and blue fans everywhere, behind only the old Mile High (which physically shook every Sunday afternoon in the presence of number 7) and Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego where the Broncos won their first Superbowl.

Last week I wrote about the plight of Nashville's Joy Ford, the country's latest victim of Eminent Domain abuse by government. Nashville's Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency (MDHA) has begun legal proceedings under Eminent Domain to condemn and seize Joy's business. It has prospered at the head of Music Row for almost 30 years. Now it is "blighted" and must be bulldozed to make room for $100 million dollars worth of development by a private firm in Houston, TX. I said last week, this case is every bit as bad as Kelo vs New London in 2005.

A Compendium of Useful Words and Phrases for the Traveler, Student, and Businessman

Here at RedState, we have more than our share of accomplished linguists, and the appearance of a new language in nature is a matter of great interest to us.
Today in America, we’re witnessing the birth of a language (“Obamian”) which borrows heavily from the grammatical structure of American English, but with a heavy influence in matters of linguistic construction from the writings of George Orwell. Like any truly distinct language, Obamian has been observed to be highly consistent in regard to vocabulary and syntax.
We’ll be watching the development of this new language closely, with the ultimate aim of producing a complete vocabulary and grammar.
For now, here’s an initial set of essential words and phrases for the traveler or businessman (pronunciation generally follows American English):
"Consistently": Whenever this word appears (typically in the formulation "My position on XYZ has consistently been..."), it signifies that a flip-flop will appear in the next sentence.
"Inartful": This term (often appearing as “I expressed myself inartfully”) is used ironically to give a subtle impression that the speaker is acknowledging a flip-flop, while in reality he's blaming journalists for it.
"Puzzling": The speaker uses this word when a mainstream press outlet calls attention to one of his flip-flops. The term signifies that the speaker is not amused, and is intended to convey a vague threat or menace.
"This isn't the person I've known for many years": This phrase signifies that the speaker is about to throw a long-trusted friend or political ally under the bus.
This is the first installment. Feel free to add additional citations or naturally-occurring formulations of actual Obamian speech in the comments.

It appears that when George W. Bush, the CIA, and Tony Blair said that Saddam Hussein had yellowcake uranium, which was a violation of the UN resolution after the Gulf War, and one of the reasons why the USA and UK invaded Iraq to start the war, they were speaking the truth. 550 metric tons of yellowcake uranium was found recently in Iraq, that Saddam had hidden for over five years from UN weapons inspectors, and sold to Canada recently. Last week, The Supreme Court of The United States issued its last set of opinions from its current term. One of the opinions released was Kennedy v. Louisiana. Kennedy dealt with the issue of the appropriateness of the death penalty in a child rape case.

I am happy to say that none of the above took place. In fact Juan Manuel Santos, Colombia's Defence Minister has hail the rescue as "an unprecedented operation. It will go down in history for its audaciousness and effectiveness."

A friend sent me a link to an editorial from the Hartford (CT) Courant authored by Robert Satter. Mr. Satter is a judge trial referee in Hartford Superior Court and author of "Under the Gold Dome — An Insider's Look at the Connecticut Legislature." He is also, in my opinion, a very dangerous man. He has power and influence and is using them to undermine the foundation on which our country was built.
